Sufferings produce perseverance and perseverance brings about hope. Hope is able to bring about change and help us see the light. We will undoubtedly defeat adversity and move forward as we’ve always have. But it would be great to look at this from different angles; the main point being that we don’t have to agree with domestic terrorists to admit one or two truths.
Yes there’s Denzel; yes there were two big Michaels, yes there is LeBron, yes there are so many rich; famous black celebrities in this country; more than in any other nation in the world. The African American bourgeoise segment in America is worth more than some entire foreign nations. Some of the best paid actors and actresses are black and any given night at Yankee Stadium we were able to read signs that read: “Derek marry my daughter” implying white parents would be more than happy to have their daughter marry the Yankees’s captain.
All of that is great; we’ve come a long way and we should all be proud; don’t let any of those hoodlum losers tell you otherwise; however, the problem is not that America is not able to have room for outstanding, talented, gifted black Americans; the real trouble is when we move our finger down the list and we get to Jamal and Akeesha. I’m not trying to be smarter than anyone; but maybe it’s about time find a way to show that average; quasi anonymous black individual that he or she is not only important and significant, but indispensable. Maybe it is about time they don’t have to wonder when they got so little.
And in all honesty, I believe the rest of the country has done enough to help; manipulated, misguided at times, but they have done their best. It is time for the black leadership, whatever that may mean at this juncture, to quit the demagoguery; toss the coupons and the food stamps away and roll up their sleeves for the good of their community instead of their elitist selfish interests.
