Q & As FOR THIS WEEK.

WHAT DO I THINK ABOUT OBAMA'S FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE IN EIGHT MONTHS?
Honey moon between the main stream media and the president; no follow up questions, and just two or three interesting issues that he dodged at will with no regard for the sacrosanct freedom of the press. Is he to blame for that?; not at all, the man is doing his job, the journalists aren't.

WHAT DO I THINK ABOUT THE REPUBLICANS OUTRAGE ON RICE'S POSSIBLE NOMINATION FOR STATE?
Probably well founded, but clumsily managed and with no accurate illustration as to why the lady is not up to the job; for now all I hear is that she went to six news shows on TV and claimed that the Benghazi tragedy was motivated by the infamous video when the WH knew from the start it was a planned attack; well, that in itself is no evidence of incompetence; if anything; it proves Ms Rice is a good soldier and that like Powell under Bush and so many other diplomats in their time, she obediently repeated the talking points given her by her boss. I can't recall any US diplomat, with the exception of Andy Young under Carter, that would say something different from the narrative of the administration they worked for. I'm not saying she's up to the job. I honestly don't know, but doing what your boss orders you to do has never been a reason to label someone as incompetent.

WHAT DO I THINK ABOUT THE SCANDAL CURRENTLY SHAKING OUR INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY AND OUR MILITARY?
Odd timing, someone is definitely out to get someone else. This administration will go to any lengths in order to hush up the Benghazigate mess up; but what administration wouldn't?; sorry to answer a question with another question.

DO I THINK THIS TIME AROUND THE WHITE HOUSE AND CONGRESS WILL COMPROMISE?
Definitely, the House, while having now more Republicans than before the election, is against the wall, it wasted all its political capital playing tough on the assumption that the president would lose, but guess what; he won; so even in a deeply divided America people are sick and tired of the stalemate that has characterized the last three years; on the other hand, there are some moderates within the democratic party that fear to be held accountable by their constituents and will most likely talk some sense into the president's ears. My gut feeling guess is that taxes on the so-called rich will be moderately increased, which is not necessarily a good thing and in itself does not rake in sufficient cash to close the hole, but Republicans will ultimately yield on that in order to get some of what they want. Obamacare will go on with minor changes and by the time we all realize how unrealistic it is in its current version the incumbent will be gone and someone else will have to clean up the mess. I hope that someone is a Republican so that they get something similar to the cluster f.u. they left for Obama back in 2008. I can't predict any further since I still harbor the hope that the president steers the wheel a bit to the center in this term.

DID BOTH PARTIES READ THE ELECTION'S OUTCOME CORRECTLY?
Obama did, but Democrats and Republicans, as political bodies, did not. The result has scared the living daylights out of most Republicans, but they still can't find what exactly went wrong, although it was written on the wall. Democrats, on the other side, see only what they want to see; the huge gap in the electoral vote instead of the dangerously narrow gap in the popular vote. Paradoxically enough, the president appears to have shifted into legacy mode; while he will continue to push his agenda relentlessly, he gradually will start shaping his "legend" and four more years of no compromise is not what he wants, nor what he needs to go down in history as a "good" president. As I pointed out in a previous post, the man has an ego the size of Australia and while his far left base may be dreaming of food stamps and entitlements he is certainly dreaming, above all, about becoming a frequent speaker in the political fora of the future; he'd rather be a Clinton than a Carter and he has "only" four years to reach that iconic status he's been fighting for since day one.
