BACK AND FORTH

Many Americans view their country as a place where a handful of visionaries drafted a revolutionary constitution that made sure we lived happily ever after. Thus, in light of the current threat of division and class warfare they tend to believe we are living an exceptional moment in our history. I do not agree with such judgement.

While the founding fathers achieved a remarkable insight of future developments and situations, there were many events they could not foresee and it has only been the people's instinct, as well as the robustness of the American institutions to steer us away from disaster. McCarthyism, segregation, and Watergate, to name a few, are vivid examples of the system's ability to protect itself.

The so called conspiracy to make the world a single "nation" controlled by bankers and other wealthy individuals is not an American phenomenon, but a worldwide effort to further concentrate power and resources in fewer hands; it is not, as many in the left would hope to make us see, a right wing offensive; money has no ideology; it is the result of the sum of the needs of a global elite that seems to have a well defined strategy, but no tactics to reach its goal and contrary to what most of us may think, the US's strength is the main hurdle in the way. The plotters however, are not a monolithic group of people; they have two main different approaches to the one nation utopia: one from the "left" and the other one from the "right" to use traditional terms that no longer convey an accurate meaning ; the former aims at dismantling the US as a society in order to achieve a totalitarian world order, while the latter aims at using the United States and some other rich nations (including two or three emerging economies) as the nucleus of a new world order where individuals enjoy very little freedom as they live, straight jacketed, in a gigantic bank ruled Gullah; both approaches are extremely dangerous and they ultimately reflect the lack of creativity that afflicts the western ruling class.

Could this be, in a nutshell, the dilemma we will face in November? or will we meet the challenge?
